Special Education Services

Students receiving special education services must meet specific eligibility criteria as defined by the federal law and the Texas Education Agency in one or more of 13 disability categories.  Services are available at no cost to the family.

The Morris County Special Education Cooperative staff work closely with campus administrators, teachers, instructional aides, and related service providers, to provide quality services to students with disabilities.  We are dedicated to giving students with disabilities access to the general curriculum, helping them to become as independent as possible in school, helping them to reach their full potential, helping them to transition successfully to post-high school education and employment and to becoming contributing members of the community.

Decision-making regarding the provision of services, including the location or setting is made by the Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee, and follows a specific sequence.  That sequence begins with a consideration of the student’s curricular needs and is followed by a consideration of the type and level of support the student needs.  This sequence of decisions follows the Least Restrictive Environment (LRE) provision of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and ensures that all options are carefully considered and students are properly placed.
